A powerful targetman, Vennegoor of Hesselink has been a key figure in PSV Eindhoven's recent successes. Signed from FC Twente to replace Manchester United bound Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2001, he was regular goalscorer during the title winning campaigns of 2002/03, 2004/05 and 2005/06. He made his Netherlands debut in a 2-0 defeat to Portugal in October 2000, but competition from Patrick Kluivert, van Nistelrooy and Roy Makaay meant he was unable to hold down a place in the team. The 27-year-old returned to the squad during the qualifiers for Germany 2006 and will provide a dangerous option from the bench for the Oranje at the finals.
