Veteran utility man Cocu is one of the few experienced outfield players to keep their place in the Oranje team under Marco van Basten. The 35-year-old, who can operate anywhere in midfield, at left-back or as a deep-lying striker, was part of the Dutch squad at Euro '96, France '98, Euro 2000 and Euro 2004 and will be hoping to win his 100th cap in Germany. He began his career with AZ Alkmaar and had spells with Vitesse Arnhem and PSV Eindhoven, before joining Barcelona in 1998 and helping them to win the Primera Liga title in the first of his six seasons in Catalonia. Cocu returned to PSV in 2004 and was in inspirational form as the club won back-to-back Eredivisie titles.
