A hard-working defensive midfielder, Mehrzad Madanchi is yet to establish himself as a regular member of the senior national team. He was part of the Iran team that lost all three games at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2001, before making his bow for the senior team against Belarus in 2003. However, he has found his international opportunities limited in recent times and was a surprise selection in the squad. Madanchi currently plays his club football in the IPL for Persepolis.
