Five years have passed since Juventus paid Parma a record 52 million euros for Gianluigi Buffon, but he remains one of the finest goalkeepers in the world. The Bianconeri have had little reason to regret the extraordinary transfer fee as Buffon has helped them win the Serie A title three times and reach the 2003 Champions League final. He missed the first half of the 2005-06 season after suffering a shoulder injury in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan, but returned after Christmas as Juventus closed in on a fourth title in five years. The 28-year-old made his senior debut for Italy in 1997 and has been first-choice keeper since 2000, playing in every game at the 2002 World Cup finals and Euro 2004.
