Captain Didier Drogba will need to be at his brilliant best if the Elephants are to have any chance of progressing from the group stage of the World Cup. The powerful striker is widely thought to be Ivory Coast's best ever player and showed why by netting nine goals in as many games during World Cup qualifying, before finding the target four times at the 2006 African Cup of Nations. However, it was Drogba's aerial prowess and link-up play rather than his goalscoring ability that persuaded Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to pay Marseille £24million for his services in 2004. The 28-year-old's displays as a lone striker have been key to Chelsea's back-to-back Premiership title triumphs, but controversy about his alleged diving has overshadowed his contribution.
