A defensively-minded midfielder, Emerse Fae is likely to be an important figure for the Elephants in Germany. The 22-year-old offers little attacking threat from his preferred position on the right flank, but coach Henri Michel likes to use him when he wants to keep the game tight - as he surely will in the Group C encounters against Argentina and the Netherlands. Fae, who has spent his entire professional career with Nantes, was born in France and was a member of Les Bleus team that won the 2001 FIFA Under-17 World Championship. He opted to represent the country of his parents' birth at senior level and was a regular as Ivory Coast reached the final of the 2006 African Cup of Nations.
