Montpellier goalkeeper Gerard Gnanhouan looks set to spend the summer in the familiar surroundings of the substitute's bench. The 27-year-old's only appearance in qualifying came in a 3-2 home defeat against Cameroon, with his performance seemingly being poor enough for him to lose his position as Jean-Jacques Tizie's deputy and slip to third choice in coach Henri Michel's eyes. Gnanhouan, who was capped by France at youth level, began his career with Guingamp before moving on to Sochaux in 2002. A lack of first-team action persuaded him to drop down to Ligue 2 to join Montpellier in 2005, but he was unable to oust Laurent Pionnier from the starting line-up and spent most of his first season at Stade de la Mosson on the bench.
