A tricky right winger, Gilles Yapi Yapo is likely to start most of the Elephants' World Cup games on the bench. He featured regularly during qualifying but lost his place to the more defensively-minded Emerse Fae during the 2006 African Cup of Nations. However, the 24-year-old's pace and ability to supply dangerous crosses make him a useful substitute and he can expect to see some action in Germany. Yapi Yapo, who is occasionally used on the left, made his name in Belgium with Beveren before joining Nantes in 2004. He struggled to make an impact with the French top-flight side and moved on to Swiss Super League outfit Young Boys in January 2006.
