Along with keeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, playmaker Nakata is one of only two survivors from the squad for the 1998 tournament. He left his homeland soon after France 98 to try his luck in Italy with Perugia and at first seemed destined to become a major force in Serie A. A move to AS Roma soon followed, but he failed to find his feet in the capital and has since moved on to Parma, Bologna and lastly Fiorentina. Nakata spent last season on loan in the Premiership with Bolton Wanderers and a permanent deal is still a possibility. He made his international debut back in 1997 against Korea and has made more than 70 appearances for Japan and looks to have been reinvigorated by his time in England.
