Ono is currently back in the J-League with Urawa Reds after a move to Feyenoord failed to work out due to injury and a loss of form. He moved to the Netherlands in the summer of 2001 and was a regular in the Japan side for their home World Cup finals a year later. Foot injuries hindered his progress, while he was also fielded in a number of different positions for the Rotterdammers and eventually decided to move back home to link-up with the Reds for a second spell. However, he has remained in the national team set-up throughout his struggles and has made more than 50 appearances for Japan.
