A veteran of the last two tournaments, Kawaguchi is a spectacular shot-stopper whose weakness under the high ball saw him struggle to adapt to life in Europe earlier on in his career. He made little impact in England with Portsmouth or in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland, but has become number one for the national team again after returning home to join Jubilo Iwata. He started his club career with Yokohama F Marinos and has made nearly 100 appearances Japan.
