Paredes started his professional career with Olimpia Asuncion in his homeland and won five league titles before moving to FC Porto in 2000 where he played a key role in the Portuguese side's midfield. The 29-year-old helped his side win the Portuguese Cup in 2001 but, after playing a part in his country's World Cup campaign four years ago, he was snapped up by Italian side Reggina where he still plays. Paredes is an aggressive tackler who has a knack of scoring crucial goals.
