The former Newcastle United winger is currently plying his trade in Argentina with Newells Old Boys. Gavilan became the first Paraguay star to play in England when he moved from Cerro Porteno to St James' Park in January 2000. However, he struggled to break in to the Magpies first team and started only two Premiership matches in his four years on Tyneside. Gavilan went on to play for Brazilian side Internacional after spells with Mexico's Guadalajara and Italy's Udinese before his transfer to Newell's earlier this year. He made his international debut in a friendly match against Mexico in 1999.
