The 18-year-old burst on to the international scene in 2005 and is widely regarded as his country's best young player. He was snapped up by Paraguay's best-supported side Olimpia from his hometown club Olimpia de Ita and made his senior debut at the age of 16. Montiel went on to be a regular in Olimpia's midfield and made his international debut at the age of 17. A transfer to Swiss side FC Basel fell through but he will now become an Udinese player after the World Cup finals.
