The defender made his international debut against England in April 2002 and played in the World Cup finals later that year. The 26-year-old started his club career with Olimpia Asuncion where he won two Paraguayan titles in 1999 and 2000. After clinching the Copa Libertadores in 2002 and the Recopa Sudamericana the following year, he signed for French side Nantes in 2004 where he has struggled to impress. He has been loaned to Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro and River Plate of Argentina in the last two years.
