The Newells Old Boys goalkeeper has emerged as the successor to the charismatic Jose Luis Chilavert who was one of the stars of the last World Cup. The 28-year-old has become a regular in his Argentinian club side and helped them clinch the Apertura League title in the 2004-05 campaign. He was voted Paraguayan Player of the Year in 2004 and was back-up keeper four years ago in South Korea and Japan when he was still playing for Paraguayan side Libertad. Earlier in his career he played for Sol de America.
