Kuszczak has emerged from the shadows to become one of the rising stars of Polish football, having enjoyed an excellent season with West Bromwich Albion, despite them suffering relegation. A tall, agile keeper, Kuszczak had been expected to be a back-up with the Baggies, but broke into the first team after an injury to Chris Kirkland. He took his chance with both hands and is now back in the international set-up, having made his debut for Poland in December 2003 against Malta. The 24-year-old previously played his club football in Germany with Hertha Berlin and KFC Uerdingen.
