FC Porto stopper Costa won a place in the 23-man squad as a replacement for Jorge Andrade, who is still sidelined by a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old helped his side win the league title once again in the season just ended, while his adaptability worked in his favour - with Costa able to play centre-back, left-back or even in midfield. Started his career with Boavista, but came to prominence after moving to city rivals Porto and was rewarded with an international debut against the Republic of Ireland in February 2005.
