A versatile defender with an eye for goal, Goran Gavrancic is regarded as one of the finest players in Ukrainian club football. The tough-tackling 27-year-old, who can play anywhere across the backline, joined Dynamo Kyiv from Cukaricki in 2001 and has since picked up two Premier League and three Ukraine Cup winners' medals. Gavrancic is a member of the 'famous four' defence that conceded just one goal in 10 games during the World Cup qualifying campaign as Serbia & Montenegro topped their group ahead of Spain. Shortly after qualification was secured he suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery, but he was able to return to action in mid-April and is confident of being match fit by the time Germany 2006 gets underway.
