Attacking midfielder Ivan Ergic has battled back from a lengthy illness to force his way in to Serbia & Montenegro's World Cup squad. He began his career in Australia with Perth Glory, where his displays earned him a move to Italian giants Juventus in 2000. He was immediately sent out on loan to FC Basel, where he has remained ever since. The 25-year-old made a positive impression during his first two seasons in Switzerland but was then struck down with mononucleosis, which effectively halted his career for two years. He was able to return to regular first-team action in 2005 and helped Basel to reach the last eight of the UEFA Cup and finish second in the Swiss Super League this season.
