An uncompromising central defender with towering aerial ability, Nemanja Vidic will be hoping to recapture his outstanding form of the qualification campaign at Germany 2006 after making an uncertain start to his Manchester United career. The 24-year-old was part of the 'famous four' backline that conceded just one goal in 10 games as Serbia & Montenegro topped their qualifying group ahead of Spain. His displays persuaded Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson to spend £7million to tempt him from Spartak Moscow in January 2006, but his tough-tackling style has not yet looked suited to the Premiership. Vidic began his professional career with Crvena Zvezda and, after captaining the Belgrade-based club for three seasons, he moved to Spartak in a £4million transfer in 2004.
