Midfield playmaker Sasa Ilic will head to Germany 2006 in confident mood after an outstanding debut season at Galatasaray. He netted 12 times in 30 matches as the Istanbul giants won the Turkish Super League, proving he is capable of succeeding outside his homeland. The 28-year-old enjoyed great success during almost a decade with Partizan Belgrade, but was unable to adapt to the challenges of Spanish football after joining Celta Vigo in 2004 and soon headed back to Partizan. He made his international debut in August 2000 and has since won over 30 caps, but started just twice during World Cup qualifying.
