Song moved to Europe after South Korea's successful World Cup campaign in 2002, sealing a transfer to Feyenoord from Busan Icons, after also being linked with Internazionale. The 27-year-old struggled to settle in Holland though and returned to South Korea at the start of last year when he signed for Suwon Samsung. His versatility makes him a crucial member of his country's defence and Dick Advocaat is expected to prefer him to Song's club colleague Cho Won-Hee.
