Luis Aragones was expected to choose between Lopez and Asier Del Horno in his 23-man squad, but in the end opted to take them both to Germany. The 24-year-old Atletico Madrid player has been rotated by Aragones with Del Horno in the Spanish side recently but his club displays this term have earned him a place in the squad. However, he looks set to play a peripheral role this summer with appearances on the substitute's bench more likely than on the pitch. He started his career with Atletico Madrid but, after two seasons with Osasuna, returned to the club in 2004.
