The youngest member of the Spain squad who was called up by Luis Aragones after a superb season in the English Premiership with Arsenal. The 19-year-old has already made over 70 appearances for the Gunners after arriving on a free transfer from Barcelona in 2003. His form last season was one of the main reasons club manager Arsene Wenger allowed skipper Patrick Vieira to leave in the summer and his display against Real Madrid in the Champions League in March prompted a first call up to the national side - a friendly against Ivory Coast. An excellent passer of the ball, who despite a lack of obvious pace or power has the ability to boss the game from the centre of the pitch.
