Diego Benaglio's performances for Portuguese side Nacional this season helped him to pip Thun goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic to the third shot-stopper spot in Switzerland's 23-man squad. He helped Nacional finish in a creditable fourth place in Portugal as they clinched a UEFA Cup place and at just 22 is likely to gain valuable experience in Germany. Benaglio started his career with Grasshoppers but moved to Stuttgart in 2003 although he struggled to break into the Bundesliga outfit's first team. He moved to Portugal last summer.
