The Arsenal youngster was a surprise inclusion in the Switzerland squad but has benefited from injuries suffered by key players. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast-born defender moved to Highbury in August 2003 and made his debut for the Gunners in October 2004 as Arsene Wenger's young side beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Carling Cup. Arsenal's injury problems at the start of 2006 saw him partner Philippe Senderos at the heart of the club's defence. Djourou went on to make seven Premiership appearances during the 2005-06 campaign with some at full-back.
