The veteran goalkeeper has spent the last six years at FC Basel as he continues his long stint as Switzerland's number one goalkeeper. He did look shaky in the second leg of his country's controversial play-off success against Turkey but is usually a calm presence as the last form of defence. The 35-year-old spent eight seasons with Grasshoppers, where he won three league titles and a Swiss Cup, before moving to Basel at the start of the 1999-2000 campaign. He had a short spell in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen but after only half a season in Germany he returned to Basel in January 2001. He helped Christan Gross' side reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2005-06 where they lost to Middlesbrough.
