The 29-year-old defender has been a regular in the Switzerland side since making his international debut eight years ago. He began his club career with Swiss side Meyrin before moving to Servette as a left winger in 1995. Muller was converted to a sweeper at his new club where he spent a successful four years. He went on to continue his consistent form with Grasshoppers where he attracted the attention of Lyon who signed him in 2000. Muller won three domestic titles with the French side before sealing a transfer to Spanish side Mallorca. However, he played only six games for the island side before returning to Switzerland with FC Basel. A string of strong displays alerted Lyon again, and he returned to Gerard Houllier's side in January 2006.
