Cabanas is a 27-year-old attacking midfielder who is currently playing in Germany with Cologne. He holds Swiss and Spanish passports but his career was nearly ended when he was only 15 due to arthritis in his knee. Cabanas has recently emerged as a replacement for long-term injury victim Hakan Yakin. The midfielder spent most of his career with Grasshoppers until he moved to the Bundesliga in January but, although he was a regular starter for Cologne in the second half of the season, was unable to stop them sliding to relegation.
