The 27-year-old Auxerre stalwart was forced to spend time in hospital after Switzerland's tempestuous play-off success against Turkey. He was kicked in the groin after the post-match brawl that marred the tie and was forced to endure an overnight stay in hospital. Grichting spent the early part of his career with Swiss side FC Sion before moving to Auxerre in 2002. He has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot with the French side that finished sixth this term, although he did play a part in the club's UEFA Cup run in 2004-05.
