The first Hawaiian to play for the USA, Brian Ching is likely to spend much of Germany 2006 watching from the bench. He made his international debut as a substitute in the 2-0 friendly win against Wales in May 2003, but a succession of injury problems have prevented him from becoming a fixture in the side. The hard-working forward began his club career with Los Angeles Galaxy, but failed to make an impact in the MLS and spent the 2002 season playing for Seattle Sounders in the A-League. He returned to the MLS with San Jose Earthquakes (now known as Houston Dynamo) in 2003 and was the league's joint highest scorer the following season.
