Widely regarded as the best defender ever produced by the USA, Eddie Pope will be taking part in his third World Cup finals in Germany. After making his name at the 1996 Olympics he won his first senior international cap against Trinidad & Tobago later that year and has been a regular in the team ever since. As well as being a member of the USA teams that flopped at France '98 and reached the last eight at Korea and Japan 2002, Pope earned a winner's medal at the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 32-year-old spent the bulk of his club career with DC United, where he won the MLS title three times, before moving on to Metrostars in 2003 and then Real Salt Lake in 2005.
