Berhalter earned a late call-up for the summer showpiece after Cory Gibbs suffered a knee injury in a friendly against Morocco. The rugged defender can play anywhere across the back four and the 32-year-old was a member of the US squad for the World Cup finals four years ago. Made his international debut in October 1994 against Saudi Arabia and has won more than 40 caps to date. Currently plays his club football in Germany, where he has helped Energie Cottbus earn a return to the Bundesliga, while he has also had a spell in England with Crystal Palace as well as playing for six years in Holland.
