Jimmy Conrad had to wait until he was 28 for his international debut, but he has certainly made the most of his opportunity. The commanding central defender was a surprise name in Bruce Arena's squad for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but played in every game as the USA won the tournament and has retained his place in the national set-up ever since. Conrad began his professional career with San Jose Earthquakes and was a member of the club's 2001 MLS Championship winning team. He moved to Kansas City Wizards in 2003 and was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2005.
