Marcus Hahnemann heads to the World Cup in the best form of his career having kept 22 clean sheets in 45 appearances as Reading raced to the Championship title. However, the imposing shot-stopper looks unlikely to see any action at Germany 2006 after winning just six caps since his international debut in 1994. Hahnemann made his name by playing a key role in Seattle Sounders' 1996 American A-League triumph before moving on to MLS outfit Colorado Rapids the following year. An £80,000 transfer to Fulham followed in 1999 but he failed to make the expected impact at Craven Cottage and was allowed to join Reading on a free transfer in 2002. He has remained first-choice goalkeeper for the Royals ever since.
