Manchester United's forgotten shot-stopper Tim Howard looks set to spend Germany 2006 in the familiar surroundings of the substitutes' bench. The 27-year-old has been part of the senior national squad since 2002, but has never managed to edge ahead of Kasey Keller or the now retired Brad Friedel and establish himself as a regular starter. Howard made his name with MLS side New York/New Jersey MetroStars before moving to Old Trafford in a £2.3million deal in July 2003. He impressed during his first season in England and finished it with an FA Cup winner's medal, but a series of high-profile errors saw him lose his place during the 2004-05 campaign and he will spend next term on loan at Everton.
